Northern Territory Correctional Services Women's Advisory Committee (WAC)

The WAC in Northern Territory Correctional Services (NTCS) commenced in June 2008 in line with the Northern Territory Government's (NTG) commitment to supporting, promoting and strengthening the role of women in the social, cultural and economic development of the Territory.

The WAC will provide advice to the NTCS Executive Director through the Executive Management Group on a range of issues affecting female employees, as well as policy and program directions of this service.

'Building our Strengths' is the NTG's 2008-2012 Framework that outlines the key government priorities for advancing the status of women in the Northern Territory. Under this framework, the WAC can progress specific actions and provide a voice for women employees across the service.

The Director Strategic Services chairs the meetings and provides quartely reports to the Executive Management Group. Each appointment to the WAC is for a 12 month period. The committee members reflect a cross section of employees (custodial and non-custodial, Indigenous and non-Indigenous). Meetings are held quartely with members outside Darwin participating via teleconference.

Community Corrections 2 Representatives
Juvenile Detention 2 Representatives
Staff Development & Training 1 Representative
Head Office (Chair) 1 Representative

The WAC is not intended to be a forum to discuss industrial relations issues.
